Boston itself has recently been decreed its own, formal division within the Duchy of Freedom. All freeholds within the city were declared Motley property of the people of Boston, not to be removed from the hands of the city's people unless they choose to relinquish their hold upon them. The official ducal decrees can now be seen tacked within each freehold. While this would seem to remove power from the local nobility's hands, it only solidifies the standing of good relationships between the commoners and nobles of the Duchy who frequently work together anyway.
The Statehouse Motley

The Statehouse Freehold is located in the attic of the Old State House in downtown Boston (a historic site and museum for those not familiar with the area). Tended jointly by Billy Burrows, Samuel, and Duchess Shayndel Paendrag, The only clue that the building is anything more than a historic site on the Freedom Trail, are the golden lion and unicorn which hang over the entrance. They have chimerical forms which are hanging from nooses.
Inside the attic, the freehold appears much different. It seems slightly larger than it should be, but that could just be a trick of the eyes, or maybe its due to the trees. The center of the freehold is a large, well-kept lawn and colonial-style English garden, with trees along three sides. The trees grow larger and denser towards the walls, where they eventually are replaced by stone columns, and finally the walls of the freehold.
On the third side of the freehold, the entire wall is filled with the clockwork mechanism that drives the large clock on the outside of the freehold. However additional machinery (both mundane and chimerical) fills this section of the freehold, extending as far as the balefire in the center of the garden. The machinery includes giant gears and crankshafts, steam turbines and pneumatics, along with several mechanisms that defy obvious classification.
The main freehold is dominated by two structures. The first is the brick-enclosed pit which holds the balefire. The second is a giant cauldron. The lawn and garden itself are well-tended.
The freehold is patrolled by chimerical serious-looking minutemen, complete with muskets. They eye newcomers warily to determine if they are 'Regulars', but otherwise keep to themselves.
There are two main entrances to the freehold, the first is the stairwell to the attic from the museum, and the second is a secret passage from one of the tunnels in the State St. subway stop which lies under the State House.
The Fort Freehold
One of Boston's smaller freeholds, the Fort Freehold Motley was recently re-lit on one of Boston Harbor's islands. It is guarded jointly by Cobalt, Shiv, and Count Curran Wellsworth
